Albino Paradise Gourami (Macropodus Opercularis Variant)
The Albino Paradise Gourami is a beautiful and fascinating fish that can make a captivating addition to any aquarium. With its stunning albino coloration and unique labyrinth organ, which allows it to breathe atmospheric air, this fish is sure to catch the eye of any observer. Growing up to 4 inches in size, these fish are typically found in pairs and have a curious nature that may lead them to interact with their owners, forming a delightful bond.
While Albino Paradise Gouramis can be a delightful addition to an aquarium, it's important to be aware of their aggressive tendencies and to ensure that they are kept with appropriate tankmates.
It's important to note that Paradise fish are not suitable tank mates for fish their size or smaller. They can be incredibly aggressive, often ripping at fins and even killing their own kind or smaller fish. Therefore, keeping them with larger, peaceful, and semi-aggressive tankmates is best, provided they have enough space and hiding spots.
Male Albino Paradise Gouramis can also be territorial, especially during breeding periods. They may display aggression towards other males of the same species or fish with a similar shape. To prevent conflicts, keeping one male with one or more females in the aquarium is recommended. This can also help to promote breeding.
As omnivores, Albino Paradise Gouramis enjoy a balanced diet of high-quality flake food, live or frozen foods, and vegetable matter. Offering a varied diet will ensure their overall health and well-being.
Albino Paradise Gouramis thrive in a well-planted tank with a minimum size of 30 gallons, but larger aquariums are better with these guys. Provide hiding spots with caves, rocks, and driftwood to create a comfortable environment. These fish prefer water temperatures between 68-82°F (20-28°C), a pH range of 6.0-8.0, and a hardness of 5-20 dGH.
