Description

Ghost Catfish (Kryptopterus vitreolus)

The Ghost Catfish, also known as Glass Catfish, and Phantom Catfish is a fascinating freshwater fish known for its nearly transparent body, which makes it appear almost invisible in the aquarium. This unique feature, along with its slender, elongated body and forked tail, creates an eye-catching display. There body can create rainbow-like pattern of colors when sunlight shines through their body at certain angles.

Ghost Catfish grow up to 3.5 inches in size and have a peaceful temperament. These fish are schooling species, and they feel most comfortable when kept in groups of at least 5-6 individuals. Their peaceful nature makes them compatible with other non-aggressive, similarly-sized tank mates such as tetras, rasboras, and guppies.

Ghost Catfish are carnivorous, and their diet should consist primarily of high-quality live or frozen foods such as brine shrimp, daphnia, and bloodworms.

For tank habitat and care, Ghost Catfish require a well-maintained aquarium with a minimum size of 20 gallons. In a community setup, a larger aquarium of 30 gallons or more is recommended. Provide a dimly lit environment with plenty of plants, driftwood, and rocks to create hiding spots, as well as open swimming areas.

Maintain water parameters within the following ranges: pH of 6.0-7.5, hardness between 5-15 dGH, and a temperature of 75-82°F (24-28°C).
