The Snow White Cichlid, also known as Albino Snow White Cichlid, Snow White Socolofi, or Albino Socolofi Cichlid, is a stunning fish that captivates with its pure white coloration. This cichlid belongs to the Pseudotropheus Snow White species and is a popular variant with its albino form. In appearance, the Snow White Cichlid features a streamlined body shape and strikingly bright white scales. The albino variation lacks pigmentation, resulting in the absence of coloration typically seen in its wild counterparts. Adult Snow White Cichlids can reach a size of around 4 to 5 inches.

In terms of temperament, Snow White Cichlids are not particularly aggressive compared to other Mbuna species but are still not suited for a general community tank. It is important to avoid keeping them with large or aggressive Mbuna species. Instead, they are compatible with tankmates such as Aulonocara, Copadichromis, and less assertive Mbuna like Labidochromis Caeruleus. Male Snow White Cichlids can be territorial, so it is necessary to have a spacious aquarium if you plan to keep multiple males. A ratio of one male to multiple females is recommended to balance the dynamics and minimize male aggression. It's worth noting that this species establishes a hierarchy within the group, so it is essential to avoid isolating any fish from the group for prolonged periods.

In terms of diet, it’s important to provide Snow White Cichlids with a primarily vegetarian diet. Feeding them foods rich in animal protein can lead to a condition called Malawi Bloat, which can have serious consequences. Instead, opt for a high-quality Spirulina-based green flakes then mix them with standard fish flakes. Additionally, offer them specially formulated, appropriately sized granular foods designed for Mbuna cichlids. As a delightful treat, offer them Mysis shrimp, but remember to do so sparingly. For their regular meals, incorporate vegetable matter into their diet by providing treats like cucumber, blanched spinach, and nutritious romaine lettuce. This balanced diet will contribute to their overall well-being and vibrant colors.

To recreate the natural habitat of the Snow White Cichlid, it is recommended to have a spacious aquarium that is at least 5 feet long. The aquascape should aim to mimic a rocky reef environment with some open areas of sand. Decorative elements like ocean rocks can be used to construct sturdy structures extending from the tank's base to the water's surface. These structures should be designed to provide numerous crevices for the fish to explore while ensuring the rocks remain stable even if the fish dig around or underneath them.

While it is often suggested to use a substrate of coral sand or Aragonite to maintain hard and alkaline water conditions, Mbuna cichlids tend to exhibit more vibrant colors and feel safer when placed over a darker substrate. However, the Aragonite or coral sand can still be employed by placing it in a mesh bag and keeping it inside the external filter to serve as a buffering agent.

In addition to the aquascape, it is important to consider appropriate lighting for the Snow White Cichlid's tank. Moderate to high lighting levels can help to accentuate the fish's natural colors and enhance their overall appearance.

In terms of water parameters, Snow White Cichlids thrive in freshwater conditions. This species' minimum recommended aquarium size is around 50 gallons, but larger tanks are preferred, especially when housing multiple individuals. The water should have a pH range of 7.5-8.5, hardness between 5-15 dGH, and a temperature range of 75-82°F (24-28°C). It is important to maintain good water quality and perform regular water changes to ensure the health and well-being of the fish.
