Description

Pink Kissing Gourami (Helostoma Temminckii)

The Pink Kissing Gourami, also known as Kissing Fish and Green Kisser, is an eye-catching fish known for its unique kissing behavior, which is actually a display of dominance.

These gouramis have a distinctive pink coloration and can grow up to 12 inches in length. Their personalities are generally peaceful but can become semi-aggressive when establishing territory or hierarchy. Ideally, maintain 1 or 2 Kissing Gouramis in a tank to minimize territorial disputes.

While Kissing Gouramis are not schooling fish, they can coexist with other peaceful to semi-aggressive tank mates of similar size. They should not be kept with small, timid fish or those with long, delicate fins, as they may nip at them.

Kissing Gouramis are omnivorous and require a varied diet that includes both plant-based and protein-rich foods. They will appreciate flake foods, pellets, live or frozen brine shrimp, bloodworms, fresh vegetables, and algae wafers.

Kissing Gouramis have a strong preference for plant-based foods. Their lips are lined with fine teeth, which they use to graze on algae and various types of vegetation. Delicate live plants may be stripped down to their stems, so opt for hardy plants like Java fern or Java moss in their aquariums. To keep your Kissing Gouramis healthy and content, periodically offer fresh romaine lettuce, cooked zucchini, or peas. However, be cautious when providing fresh vegetables, as any uneaten portions can quickly degrade the water quality.

A well-planted tank of at least 75 gallons is recommended because they will outgrow smaller aquariums. Include plenty of hiding spots and open swimming areas too.

Pink Kissing Gouramis are hardy fish that will tolerate a range of water conditions. They prefer water temperatures between 72-82°F (22-28°C), a pH range of 6.0-8.0, and a hardness of 5-20 dGH. These fish can adapt to a wide range of water conditions, making them suitable for intermediate aquarists.
