Three Striped African Glass Catfish (Pareutropius buffei)
The Three Striped African Glass Catfish or Three Striped Glass Catfish is a unique and fascinating freshwater fish species known for its translucent body and distinctive three dark stripes running along the length of its body. These captivating fish are relatively small, reaching up to 3 inches in size. Their peaceful and timid nature makes them a wonderful addition to a community aquarium with compatible tank mates.
In terms of compatibility, the Three Striped African Glass Catfish prefer to be in a group of at least 5-6 individuals. They get along well with other peaceful and similarly-sized fish species, such as tetras, rasboras, and small catfish. Avoid housing them with aggressive or much larger fish that may see them as prey.
These fish are omnivores and will appreciate a varied diet consisting of high-quality flakes or pellets, and supplemented with live or frozen foods like brine shrimp, daphnia, and bloodworms.
The ideal tank setup for the Three Striped African Glass Catfish should be at least 20 gallons, with a larger aquarium recommended for community setups. Provide a well-planted environment with plenty of hiding spots using rocks, driftwood, and other decorations. A gentle current and dim lighting will help mimic their natural habitat and make them feel more comfortable.
Maintain water parameters within the following ranges: pH of 6.0-7.5, hardness between 5-12 dGH, and a temperature of 72-79°F (22-26°C).
