Honey Gourami (Trichogaster Chuna)
The Honey Gourami, also known as Red Honey Gourami, Sunset Honey Gourami, is a small, peaceful, and attractive freshwater fish native to India and Bangladesh. They are characterized by their golden-yellow color with a faint black line running from the snout to the caudal fin. Males develop a more intense color during breeding, while females tend to have a more muted appearance. Adult Honey Gouramis reach around 2 inches in size.
These fish have a calm, friendly nature and are compatible with other peaceful, similarly sized fish. They make excellent additions to community tanks with short and long-fin fish since they are not prone to fin nipping. This means you have a lot of flexibility if you’re set on getting a pair. Honey Gouramis should be kept in groups of at least 4-6 individuals to promote natural behavior and reduce stress.
Their omnivorous diet consists of high-quality flakes, pellets, and live or frozen foods such as brine shrimp and daphnia. A well-planted tank with floating plants and hiding spots will create a comfortable environment for Honey Gouramis.
They prefer a water temperature of 72-82°F (22-28°C), a pH of 6.0-7.5, and a hardness of 5-15 dGH.
