Sparkling Pygmy Gourami (Trichopsis Pumilus)
The Sparkling Pygmy Gourami is a small, captivating freshwater fish known for its iridescent scales and the unique croaking sound it makes. Males boast a beautiful blue and green shimmer, while females exhibit a more subdued coloration.
They grow to about 1.6 inches in length and thrive in small groups of at least 6 individuals.
These small gouramis get along well with other peaceful, similarly-sized fish species. Ideal tank mates include small tetras, rasboras, and peaceful bottom dwellers like Corydoras and Otocinclus. Avoid housing them with aggressive or fin-nipping species.
These gouramis are omnivores and enjoy a varied diet of high-quality flake food, micro-pellets, and frozen or live foods such as daphnia, brine shrimp, and bloodworms. Providing a nutritious diet will enhance their vibrant colors.
Sparkling Pygmy Gouramis prefer heavily planted aquariums with a minimum size of 10 gallons. Floating plants, subdued lighting, and gentle water flow create an ideal environment for these shy, peaceful fish.
Keep the water temperature between 72-81°F (22-27°C), with a pH of 6.0-7.5 and a hardness of 4-12 dGH.
